Moldova launched the first satellite into orbit

The first artificial satellite made in the Republic of Moldova – “TUMnanoSAT” – which was built by the Technical University of Moldova (UTM), was placed in the earth’s orbit from the International Space Station. The event was broadcast online, and in Chisinau, high officials of the country’s leadership, representatives of the academic environment, but also those passionate about technologies, gathered at Tekwill to watch the historic event. The satellite was launched into outer space by astronauts from the International Space Station as part of the international program, KiboCUBE, the Technical University of Moldova being selected by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and the United Nations Space Office.

Present at the event, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița emphasized that space exploration brings more benefits to people, economic agents, economy and science.

Natalia Gavrilița, Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova: “Currently the Government of the Republic of Moldova is discussing with international companies the possibility of using satellite data to determine the yield in agriculture, for example. Or to assess the consequences of natural disasters. That can make a government’s policies much more accurate and benefit the entire economy. Despite all the difficulties, we will continue to invest in universities and science”.

Viorel Bostan, rector of the Technical University of Moldova: “The idea to create a satellite appeared back in 2008, so that the Republic of Moldova could also explore outer space. Space technologies have always been a catalyst, an additional reason for pupils and students to learn physics, mathematics, technology engineering, and for the Republic of Moldova to be able to use for its benefit those space technologies that are widely used by many developed countries. Then it seemed like a dream, a distant dream, but in 2009 the first group was created. I was skeptical at the first stage, but we see that we have succeeded almost 14 years later. In 2018 we tried for the first time to apply to this program, KiboCUBE. I didn’t succeed on the first try, but again I learned the lesson, if you don’t succeed on the first try, learn from the second and on the third try I succeeded”, said Viorel Bostan.

The Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Moldova, Yoshihiro Katayama, stated that the first Moldovan satellite was launched into outer space, and the Japanese were able to give a little help in this regard, the satellite being sent into orbit through the KiboCUBE program. “Kibo in Japanese means ‘hope.’ Today the Republic of Moldova launched not only a satellite, but launched and sent hope for the future. I have witnessed this wonderful project, for which so many talented and hardworking people have worked. I am convinced that this step forward will be followed by other projects in which the Japanese will be with you”, said the ambassador.

Teaching staff, students, masters and doctoral students from different faculties of UTM contributed to the creation of the nanosatellite. The average age of the team is under 30 years old. According to the rector of UTM, currently the team of experts from the Technical University is working on the creation of the second version of the nanosatellite.

The nanosatellite TUMnanoSAT is a cube with an edge of 10 cm and a mass of 1,150 kg. It will have educational and research missions. It will allow the testing of subsystem sensors for determining the attitude of the satellite (magnetometers, micro-gyroscopes, solar sensors) for the optimization of the attitude control algorithms, the development of an efficient “satellite-ground station” communication subsystem, the testing of the solar energy supply system for obtaining optimal ways of distributing the accumulated energy, studying the functionality and behavior of nanosensors in the conditions of virtual space, testing the reliability of electronic components in the conditions of space radiation. TUMnanoSAT was designed, built and tested from July 2019 to October 2021 within the State Program “Development and launch of the series of nanosatellites with research missions from the International Space Station, their monitoring, post-operation and promotion of space technologies”. Between June and August 2021, the TUMnanoSAT satellite passed all the functional tests at the Romanian Institute of Space Sciences, according to the rigors of JAXA and NASA. Later, in March, it was transported to Japan, at JAXA, where it was included in the JSSOD launch capsule. In April, it was transported to NASA and included in Cargo Dragon-2.

Digital Connections: Moldova-Ukraine. Entrepreneurial education for women

Almost half a year after the start of the armed conflict in the neighboring country, thousands of refugees continue to be hosted by our country. They quickly learned how to face the marathon of challenges, to integrate more easily and enjoy the support of society. Some of them found him in the IT community from Chisinau, participating in a new edition of “Digital Connections: Moldova-Ukraine” – networking event hosted by IHUB/Seed Forum Moldova in collaboration with UN Women, with the financial support of Sweden and USAID, in partnership with the Tekwill project.

“Digital Connections: Moldova-Ukraine” is the right platform to know the professional and life stories and experiences of women of any age or professional training. A refugee in our country, Elena chose to work at a non-governmental organization, to lend a shoulder and help other compatriots of hers.

“Now I have two homes and two countries that I love – Ukraine and Moldova. War requires you to adapt to survive, that’s how I ended up in Moldova, I got a job in an NGO that offers support to refugees from Ukraine. We opened the first office in Chisinau and helped several Ukrainian citizens to enter the labor field. There are a lot of innovative ideas and a lot of potential among the community of Ukrainians who have settled long-term in Moldova. For women, things are more complicated. And this, because until we talk about their employment in the labor field, it is necessary to find solutions for children’s involvement in various activities”, said Elena.

In order to convey a positive message of social inclusion and strengthening the connection with the local community, women working in the IT field from Moldova were also invited to the event. Svetlana Gorsa, Human Resources Projects Coordinator within “Orange Moldova” and Elena Pascal, representative of “Pentalog Moldova”, they spoke to the participants about the IT sector, the realities and trends of the labor market, current needs and opportunities for employment or internships in local companies. The event was also of interest to Moldovan women, who, although they still encounter barriers, are motivated to reprofile themselves in the IT field.

“For several years I have been following and informing myself about the IT field, but I have a great barrier and fear towards this field. Due to my age and lack of experience, I hesitate to get more actively involved, but I have a great desire and motivation to study the IT field. This event was a first step and I’m glad I managed to get here,” said Lilia, a 59-year-old Moldovan.

Participants were also introduced to WoW women’s community projects and opportunities, as well as ICT development programs offered by Empowering Women Hubs Networks. The initiatives target both women from the Republic of Moldova and those from Ukraine. “Empowering Women Hub Networks” is a project that aims to support economic development by involving more girls and women in promising sectors with the aim of impacting equality, independence and creating better access to economic opportunities by promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment through their involvement in information technologies and communications development.

How we attract young people to the sector with the highest salaries

Almost 2000 young people who want to make a career in IT participated in the biggest professional orientation event – “IT Career Expo 2022”.

Young people, including students, who want retraining had the opportunity to interact with over 20 IT companies in Chisinau and learn, from the first source, about job offers in this sector. Many of them found a job, even though they are still students, and the others managed to get internships in international companies.

“IT Career Expo 2022” was organized within “Tekwill Academy”, with the financial support of the United Nations Development Program in Moldova, through the program “Acceleration of digital transformation in the public sector of the Republic of Moldova” and of the participating companies.

The event generated a great impact on social media, and the website itcareerexpo2022.com was accessed by thousands of visitors.

Practical workshops, orientation sessions for young IT enthusiasts

Promoting Digital Business Skills in Moldova

Last February, OECD Eurasia launched a new work stream to promote digital business skills in Moldova, carried out within the framework of the EU4Business: From Policies to action – Phase 2 project. This new project builds on the regional report Beyond COVID-19: Advancing Digital Business Transformation in the Eastern Partner Countries published in 2021. In this context, the OECD provides tailored guidance to Moldova on how to build a conducive ecosystem and set effective policies to further develop digital skills across the SME population. To this end, the OECD carried out desk research, hold interviews with local stakeholders and international experts, analyzed the current state of play, and eventually suggested tailored policy reform options.

On September 22, at the Ministry of Economy from Moldova, this third and last Working Group meeting highlighted the key findings of the project, with a particular focus on the topic of institutional and policy framework for digital skills and specific support for SMEs. This event provided the opportunity to discuss the latest policy developments regarding digital skills in Moldova and the draft OECD recommendations in that regard. A second session delved deeper into the example of Latvia, with a national expert sharing his feedback on the draft OECD report and his country’s experience in designing digital skills policies and providing targeted support to SMEs.

The study emphasizes the role and impact of Tekwill programs aiming to nurture the 21st century skills through schools programs, lifelong learning activities, children’s programs, women programs and many others, as during the last 7 years, Tekwill has delivered 2,982,536 hours of training to approximately 160,000 beneficiaries. With an extensive range of educational products and programs, during the session, the study case of Tekwill promoting Digital Business Skills and matching market driven skills with relevant educational programs was presented.

This event brought together policy makers and experts from Moldova involved in the design and implementation of policies that promote SME development, as well as policy makers and experts from OECD countries. Other participants included representatives of the private sector, as well as EU and OECD officials.

This project is implemented within the framework of a multi-country project “EU4Business: From Policies to Action – Phase 2” in the Eastern Partnership with the financial support of the European Union within the EU4Business. The project is co-ordinated with the work programme of the Eastern Partnership Business Development Panel under Platform 2 on “Economic integration and convergence with EU policies”. „IT Career Expo 2022” la Tekwill – oferte de angajare, ateliere și stagii de practică în IT

În anul 2022, pe piața muncii a crescut semnificativ cererea pentru competențele IT. Conform raportului Forumului Economic Mondial, 50% dintre angajați se vor recalifica sau vor obține noi abilități în următorii trei ani, pe măsură ce tehnologia devine tot mai utilizată. În domeniul IT din Moldova, cotat drept domeniul cu cele mai mari salarii,  specialiștii sunt la mare căutare. UTM invită toți doritorii la Centrul Tekwill, pentru a trăi împreună istoricul eveniment de lansare pe orbită a nanosatelitului TUMnanoSAT

Vineri, 12 august 2022, cu începere de la ora 12.00, Universitatea Tehnică a Moldovei invită reprezentanții mass-media (presa scrisă, radio, tv) și toți doritorii la Centrul Tekwill (str. Studenților, 9/11, Chișinău), pentru a trăi împreună istoricul eveniment de lansare pe orbită a nanosatelitului TUMnanoSAT.
 

Conexiunea cu partenerii internaționali – Agenția de Explorare Aerospațială din Japonia (JAXA) și Oficiul Națiunilor Unite pentru Afaceri Spațiale (UNOOSA), sub egida cărora satelitul va fi lansat pe orbită de către astronauții de la Stația Spațială Internațională (SSI), precum și transmisiunea live a lansării va fi asigurată de către coordonatorii de la JAXA.

Constituind o premieră pentru Republica Moldova, precum și o experiență spațială de rezonanță pentru comunitatea internațională, evenimentul va întruni la Tekwill personalități de prim rang din conducerea țării, reprezentanți de seamă ai comunității științifice și ai mediului academic, care se vor pronunța pe marginea evenimentului. De asemenea, agenda evenimentului include luări de cuvânt din partea reprezentanților JAXA și ai UTM, implicați direct în elaborarea, dezvoltarea și lansarea pe orbită a primului satelit al Republicii Moldova.

Amintim că în perioada iunie-august 2021, satelitul TUMnanoSAT, construit de Universitatea Tehnică a Moldovei, a trecut toate testele funcționale la Institutul de Științe Spațiale din România, conform rigorilor JAXA și NASA. Ulterior, în luna martie, a fost transportat în Japonia, la JAXA, unde a fost inclus în capsula de lansare JSSOD. În aprilie a fost transportat la NASA şi inclus în Cargo Dragon-2. Iar pe 15 iulie 2022 satelitul a fost lansat în spațiu, fiind transportat la Stația Spațială Internațională  cu racheta Falcon 9 a companiei SpaceX.

 

Activitatea respectivă se desfășoară în cadrul unui program internațional. Universitatea Tehnică a Moldovei a fost selectată de către Agenția Aerospațială a Japoniei (JAXA) și Oficiul Națiunilor Unite pentru Spațiu (UNOOSA) pentru Programul KiboCUBE, în scopul lansării gratuite pe orbită în spațiu a nanosatelitului TUMnanoSAT de pe Stația Spațială Internațională.

A fost lansată prima aplicație mobilă de investiții alternative din Moldova dedicată tinerilor

O aplicație de investiții alternative a fost lansată de curând în Moldova – prima de acest fel în țara noastră, dar și în regiune. Platforma este disponibilă pentru moldovenii de acasă și din diasporă, care fac investiții cu profit și democratizează accesul la finanțare pentru persoane sau companii. Proiectul este realizat în cadrul „Inițiativei de încurajare a implicării sectorului privat” de către Fagura și proiectul TEKWILL, implementat de ATIC, cu suportul USAID și al Suediei, prin care sunt generate soluții tehnologice utile societății, inițiative de încurajare a antreprenoriatului, dar și oportunități de atragere, dezvoltare și pregătire a profesioniștilor în domeniul IT.

Investițiile alternative – un trend în rândul tinerilor interesați de finanțe și profit

Aplicația reprezintă o platformă prin intermediul căreia clienții pot investi în împrumuturile altor persoane, administra portofoliul propriu de investiții și vinde prin „secondary market” (piața secundară), dacă doresc acces mai rapid la lichidități. În curând, va fi adăugată și opțiunea de investiții în împrumuturile companiilor. Aceste investiții contribuie la dezvoltarea pieței de capital, dar și la educația financiară a populației.

În ultimii trei ani, crowdfundingul bazat pe împrumuturi a crescut rapid în țara noastră. Acest tip de investiție este oferit de platforma fintech Fagura.com. Față de alte instrumente de investiții, crowdfundingul are avantajul de a genera un profit de 10-17% anual, mult mai mare față de cel oferit de depozitele bancare și cu riscuri mult mai scăzute față de industria crypto. Aceste investiții sunt bazate pe riscul asumat de investitor, pot genera profit și sunt un instrument prin care pot fi ajutate alte persoane sau companii care au nevoie de finanțare.

„10” pentru IT – proiecte cu impact comunitar susținute de ATIC

Aplicația este una din cele 10 proiecte ale companiilor IT din țară susținute în cadrul „Inițiativei de încurajare a implicării sectorului privat” de către TEKWILL, cu suportul USAID și al Suediei. Pe principii de co-finanțare (50% – ATIC, 50% – compania beneficiară), de susținere s-au bucurat companiile care au demonstrat că soluțiile lor pot produce impact asupra pieței, au conceput soluții inovative și dețin un potențial adecvat al echipei de implementare. Inițiativa reconfirmă unul dintre angajamentele strategice ale proiectului – de a contribui la digitalizarea societății, dar și la majorarea numărului de specialiști în domeniu, creșterea calității capitalului uman și progresului industriei IT în general.

Punct și de la capăt! Învățământul universitar la specialitățile TIC va trece printr-un amplu proces de modernizare

Asigurarea sectorului TIC cu specialiști calificați prin pregătirea și dezvoltarea forței de muncă continuă să fie una dintre prioritățile Asociației Naționale a Companiilor din Domeniul TIC (ATIC). Pentru a cunoaște cât de pregătite sunt universitățile din țară și care este starea actuală a resurselor educaționale prin prisma specialităților IT, programelor dedicate, proiectelor tech, activităților și laboratoarelor de cercetare, a fost efectuat „Studiul de fezabilitate a modernizării învățământului universitar în domeniul TIC din Republica Moldova”. În cadrul unui eveniment dedicat, informațiile colectate au fost prezentate publicului larg, iar cele mai bune idei urmează a fi implementate în anul de studii care urmează. Documentul a fost elaborat în cadrul proiectului TEKWILL, implementat de Asociația Naționala a Companiilor TIC (ATIC), cu susținerea financiară a partenerilor externi de dezvoltare – USAID și Suedia.

Rectori, decani, șefi de catedre, profesori universitari și reprezentanți ai sectorului privat din domeniul IT au participat la eveniment, oferind recomandări pentru inițiativele de dezvoltare a curriculumului universitar și modalităților de susținere a domeniului de cercetare. De asemenea, în cadrul discuțiilor, s-a pus accent și pe strategiile pe care instituțiile de învățământ le pot dezvolta și implementa pentru a trece cu succes prin procesul de transformare digitală.

Pentru a realiza cele propuse, vrem să oferim posibilitatea specialiștilor din domeniul privat și profesorilor universitari să exploreze tendințele de dezvoltare a industriei IT la nivel național și internațional, să se expună și să vină cu expertiză, pentru a contribui la adaptarea și modernizarea laboratoarelor digitale din universități, în conformitate cu cerințele de piață.”

Potrivit documentului, principalele provocări în digitalizarea și modernizarea programei universitare sunt:

  • Dezvoltarea universităților care asigură o predare și practică avansată sau care realizează proiecte de cercetare și dezvoltare de produse rămâne în urma necesităților economiei țării și ale sectorului TIC;
  • Cele mai importante laboratoare de microelectronică din Moldova au invenții și brevete, cercetătorii universitari au sute de publicații în reviste naționale și internaționale, dar în ultimii cinci ani nu există exemple de comercializare a invențiilor produse în țară;
  • O bună parte din profesorii care predau specialități IT nu au suficientă experiență de interacțiune cu tehnologiile în lumea reală;
  • Lipsa de resurse financiare care să susțină activitățile de cercetare și dezvoltare a universităților și a laboratoarelor universitare;
  • Companiile TIC orientate către piața locală au nevoie de specialiști care cunosc programele precum: 1C, Bitix24, Terrasoft, MS Dynamics365, iar universitățile nu oferă acest tip de formare educațională avansată;
  • Decalajul între nevoile companiilor TIC și ale economiei naționale din țară și activitățile și proiectele de cercetare și dezvoltare derulate în universități.

Participanții au analizat recomandări și diverse propuneri de îmbunătățire și adaptare a curriculumului universitar. Printre acestea se numără: implementarea soluțiilor harware și software în laboratoarele universitare, care vor încuraja activitățile de cercetare și dezvoltare de tehnologii atât în rândul studenților, cât și a profesorilor. De asemenea, mai multe inițiative adiționale programului de studiu vor putea completa curriculumul universitar pentru a le dezvolta specialiștilor de mâine abilități soft precum: antreprenoriat, creativitate, abilitatea de soluționare a problemelor. Iar pentru a fi eficiente pe termen lung, laboratoarele de cercetare și dezvoltare din universități ar trebui să devină un teren de dezvoltare a produselor pentru mai multe startupuri.
