SECOND EDITION FINTECH MOLDOVA CONFERENCE A SUCCESS

On February 28th, 2020 the second edition of the FinTech Moldova Conference gathered regulators, banks, FinTech Startups, and investors from Moldova as well as the United Kingdom, Romania, Czech Republic, Poland, and Ukraine to exchange the best practices and initiatives from the market. This year’s main topic was “Open Banking: From Regulation to Reality”, as specialists in Open Banking, Cyber Security, Business Intelligence, Investments, and Startup Ecosystems shared their knowledge with over 330 participants. This conference, #FMC20, was the main FinTech event of the year for the Republic of Moldova.

The FinTech Moldova Conference 2020 represented one of the first steps towards a FinTech ecosystem in Moldova and in the region. Besides great content, the event provided the opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue with national and international FinTech leaders and experts.
The conference started out with presentations about the FinTech overview in Moldova and neighbouring countries Romania, Ukraine and Russia, delivered by field experts Natalia Turcan Munteanu (National Bank of Moldova), Tudor Stanciu (Fintech Association Romania), Rostyslav Dyuk (Fintech Association Ukraine), and Nikita Lomov (Fintech Association Russia). Another group of presentations continued with Global Regulatory Trends in Open Banking and Open Data, international use cases and opportunities, as well as about methods of tracking and preventing cyber-threat and fraud, presented by Gavin Littlejohn, (FDATA), Lisa Gutu (Salt Edge Inc.), Yuriy Bathin (Mastercard Ukraine), Malgorzata Domogala (Mastercard Europe) and Pavel Krylov (Group IB). The presentations concluded with a discussion panel “Building FinTech Ecosystems in Ukraine, Romania, Moldova, and Russia” as another group of presentations explored the potential of the FinTech ecosystem through presented by various entrepreneurs Mohamed Dafea (Bofin), Cosmin Curticapean (iFactor), Alexander Shulov (AC Technologies), and Tudor Darie (Fagura), which then concluded with another panel, moderated by Gavin Littlejohn (FDATA).
The conference resumed with a discussion panel about “What are investors looking for in Fintech startups?” and moderated by Ghela Boskovich (FDATA). The panel Miroslav Boublik, Managing Partner at Financial Services Capital Partners; Vasile Tofan, Partner at Horizon Capital; Sergiu Matei, Angel Investor; Damir Galiev, Akbars Russia; and Cosmin Curticapean, Angel Investor.
