OVER 18,500 STUDENTS AND TEACHERS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO STUDY THE FIELDS OF THE FUTURE WITH THE TEKWILL IN EVERY SCHOOL PROJECT

July 27, 2020 @ 10:10 am

The most complex extracurricular course program, “Tekwill in every school” (TiES) has named its winners. Over 18,500 students and teachers from all over the country will be the first to study these innovative courses. With 107 institutions who submitted their application to be selected in the pilot project, the mission of the Evaluation Commission was not easy. In the end 77 middle and high schools were chosen, the list can be reviewed below.

Ana Chirița, TEKWILL Project Director: “The results of the selection process demonstrate a major interest of students and teachers in innovative fields. We are glad that everyone wants to study quality courses to become better prepared for tomorrow’s challenges and we are proud to offer them this opportunity. The project contains lessons focused on practical learning, the development of creativity, critical thinking, interpersonal communication skills and team spirit, giving students the skills needed to interactively apply scientific, engineering, and entrepreneurial concepts. Certainly, this project will bring added value to the preparation and increase the human capital of our country”.

What do the beneficiaries of the pilot project say?

Although the selection of 30 institutions was initially foreseen, due to the large number of participants and the increased interest, the project team decided to expand the number of beneficiaries. In August of this year, 216 teachers from 77 general education institutions will be trained on the content of subjects and methodologies for teaching “Tekwill in every school” courses.

Silvia Machidon, director of the Theoretical High School “Mihail Sadoveanu”, Giurgiulesti village, Cahul: “We are very happy to be on the list of these 77 institutions. We are willing to work with teachers for optional courses so that our students can benefit from this opportunity. They are very interested in the field of digital technologies, some of them last year even commuted to Galati, Romania, to attend courses in Web Design & Development, Graphic Design, but also other extra-curricular activities. And that is because we are in a rural area, and here the possibilities are limited.”

Pașcan Cristina, computer science teacher at “Todiresti Gymnasium”, Todiresti village, Anenii Noi: “Our participation in this project is an unexpected success for us. Many times in the “digital education” classes I am practically “interrogated” by students related to this subject, and in the middle school classes I teach computer science and I see an increased interest in the field of ICT. We applied to this project to keep their curiosity. I believe that especially now, when we live in a digital age, it is necessary to develop our students’ digital skills and provide them with a quality educational process.”

Parfeni Cristina, computer science teacher at the Theoretical High School “Pro Succes”, Chisinau: “We found out about this project when we received a letter through email and we were very happy. That is because we thought it would be very useful and interesting for our students, especially since we live in the 21st century. I was thrilled to see that so many institutions registered and shared the same wishes as we did. We really wanted to be accepted. The students will be very happy because they have wanted such courses for a long time.”
The creation of the courses was possible by mobilizing the financial efforts of the private sector, citizens of the country and the diaspora as well as external development partners – UNDP Moldova, USAID, and Sweden. The project also enjoys the support of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research.

“Tekwill in every school” – we prepare students for tomorrow’s professions!”

“Tekwill in every school” aims to transform education in the Republic of Moldova, both by developing interactive digital content and by introducing new methodologies in the teaching and learning process of educational institutions: blended learning and the flipped classroom. Courses can be studied individually or guided by a teacher during classes, by introducing them as optional subjects. The lessons are dedicated to students aged 13-19.

Tatiana Alexeev, coordinator of the “Tekwill in every school” project: “Each course includes 34 lessons, which will allow them to be studied during one academic year, one lesson per week. Lessons include readings, video lessons, simulation exercises, interactive assessment tests, and completion of a final project. We hope that students and teachers will fully benefit from the learning opportunities that the project offers.”

The project provides 8 curricula divided into four industries such as:

  • Artificial Intelligence (courses: Programming of Algorithms in C / C ++, Artificial Intelligence);
  • Software Development (courses: Web Design and Development, Mobile Application Design and Development);
  • Creative Industry (courses: Graphic Design, Video Storytelling);
  • Entrepreneurial Leadership (courses: Emotional Intelligence, Entrepreneurship).
