Blockchain based Liquid Democracy Voting

The Internet has several attributes that encourage thinking about it as a democratic medium. Digital democracy (Internet democracy or e-democracy) is the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in political and governance processes. E-democracy would contribute to the access to knowledge. Advances in digital communication technology has made new types of delegative democratic processes possible, as liquid democracy.

Deeplace came up with the initiative to launch a blockchain-based liquid democracy voting system and to put into use the new form of Democracy – Electronic Voting with “Delegated Democracy”. This new form of collective decision-making will give voters full control over the decision-making process. Voters will be able to vote directly on certain issues or can delegate their votes to selected representatives, who will vote on behalf of the voters.

Liquid democracy, also known as a “delegative democracy” in some circles, this is where citizens are permitted to more directly share their votes and support certain policies rather than having to rely fully on politicians and regional representatives to do so. Using modern technology, today’s citizens can instead be more active in forming the laws that govern them. The reason it is sometimes referred to as “delegative democracy” is because of the idea that the power rests more in the hands of the delegates rather than the representatives.

Blockchain increase transparency and security of voting process.

Blockchain differs from a typical database in the way it stores information. Blockchain stores data in blocks that are then chained together on a decentralized system that is public authorized. So, the ballots are authenticated and verified and can be decrypted before counting. This voting system can create fully transparent and verifiable elections.

Paper ballots and electronic voting machines that are in use today are subjected to a security vulnerability and this is clearly a huge issue over the last 10 to 20 years. Since they are highly hackable, all the ballot data being transmitted generally to a centralized system that can`t be verified.

Blockchain based Liquid Democracy Voting System is the only technology in existence today that can enable end to end verifiable elections
